Sorry guys, between our FB page, work and thinking up these excuses, how could you expect regular posts? (Sigh!)
Just kidding! Wont make any promises for daily blogs, there's just not enough happening yet. But eventually we hope to keep you as much up to date as possible via the Blog. Please try and encourage cousins to sign up a gmail account (or yahoo even) to get access to the blog.
As you may have noted on our FB page there's been a lot of votes for August 2012. But still not any specific dates.
Dates raised so far are as follows:
Week Beginning 09 July 2012
" " 16 July 2012
Week Beginning 30 July 2012
" " 06 August 2012
The only issue (thus far) with August timing is for family in New Zealand and Australia (and elsewhere
in the Pacific) considering bringing their children as most schools would be mid-term.
Of course the solution is to not bring children, however, it is entirely a personal choice.
We've also had a bit of discussion round as to how long which is obviously a "serious consideration" ie. costs money = serious consideration. There are two options raised so far:
3 days (A Monday to Wednesday Event)
6 days (A Friday Wednesday Event)
So... a lot to consider but lets get the nitty-gritty of dates and length decided and move forward to saving some $$$ (and for those of us hosting in Samoa - talking about some fund-raising).
Ia, talanoa mai...

A place to plan the very first Malietoa Reunion - that's not a funeral, wedding or court case.

Who knew web forums could come up with something (potentially) useful?
Ok so I was surfing around web forums - hotbeds of free-for-all abuse; thankfully ours seems to have gotten off lightly of recent months but thats for a different Blog entirely - as I was saying, surfing Samoan web forums I came across the term 'Matupalapala' and was very interested to find out if anyone had heard of it.
Apparently, according to one learned respondant, the term applies specifically to the Malietoa title as it was gained due to the "heroic deeds" of the first Malietoa (dont worry, I'm not going to tell the story!).
What a great name for our Reunion thinks I - but, worries I, maybe this is just someone's construct (ie. total pepelo) - so faamolemole talanoa mai if any of you have heard of or are aware that this term is for real (or not).
Peace and Love.

Oh and by the way...
Could our more creative cousins out there come up with a better name for our Blog than "MT I - Reunion"? I know its rather lazy of me but my brain cells are dying here in front of accounts - FEEL for me bleese!
Happy Day!

Se mea a leaga o le taalo i le Blog, ae le iloa fai!
Already I've had a few questions as to how to get in. Please revert to my first post - I'm feeling my way through the dark a little and I'll be able to tell you that definitively in the next few hours. Apparently if you have a gmail account you can go to the link that I've sent about in the email and on the FB page and sign in so you can comment to your heart's content!
Be patience wif me, I'm chust learning this too!!!

Ooooh, first post - I'm so nervous!
Hi everyone!
In the last week or so several of us have been talking about a Reunion. Obviously because our family is so large it would be a hard one to put together with everyone. The logistics alone (aside from funding) are a nightmare no one would be crazy enough to want. Hence the idea that we plan, organise, arrange etc etc a Reunion for the Descendants of Children and Grandchildren of Malietoa Tanumafili I and Momoe Meleisea and as a result this Blog as a tool for contact.
I've never written a Blog before so forgive me for just jumping right in.
I havent decided to give a list of rules for our blog, the only that we all expect is respect for everyone's opinions regardless of what that may be; having said that, please can we practice some restraint - no one wants to get into slanging matches (lets save that for the Reunion - ha ha).
In terms of content, if you could email or post a comment on what you might like to see going forward, that would be fantastic. In the coming days I'm hoping we might get started on where our aunts, uncles and cousins are at present (and contact details). So if you come across this Blog via our FB page and you know how to get in touch with aiga who we might miss, please point them in this direction too or drop me a line msmalietoa@gmail.com
In the meantime, I'm off to put together my own little family tree details - for all of 5 minutes! Please send me yours.
Alofa tele!
